Google bar update rolling out Monday, April 9th

Google bar update rolling out Monday, April 9th

Starting Monday, April 9th, the new Google bar look will be rolling out to all Google Apps users. The new Google bar has links to services at the top level and a More drop-down list with links to additional services.

- As before, the Google bar won’t show services that the administrator turns off in the Google Apps control panel.
- Google Search and Images always appear in the Google bar.
- A few services, such as Google Translate, do not have a services on/off setting in the control panel, so they always appear in the Google bar for all users.
- Google Play includes Android Market/Books/Music/Movies. You can disable Google Play in the control panel, but currently this doesn’t remove the service from the Google bar. This is a known issue which will be addressed.
- When you turn off a service, other services move to the top level of the Google bar or to a higher position in the list of services under More. For example, if you turn off YouTube, which appears by default in the top level of the Google bar, Sites moves from the More list to the top level.

New way to manage Control Panel administrators roles and privileges

New way to manage Control Panel administrators roles and privileges

Previously, administrator privileges were assigned on a per-user basis. As a replacement, you can now create "roles" such as Help Desk, Services, and Groups, or create your own custom role.

If you assigned delegated administrator privileges to users before administrator roles were available, Google Apps created roles for those settings. These custom roles have the name role_useremail, where useremail is the email address of the user to whom the privileges were assigned.
